Harley-Davidson Street 750 India

Harley-Davidson will be unveiling the Street 750 in India on the 17th of January at the India Bike Week 2014. The bike has arrived in Goa for the event and our friends at GEARS have shared these pictures with us of this new entry level motorcycle from Milwaukee. The Street 750 is the most important product for Harley-Davidson India at this moment as the company looks at tapping into the urbanised crowd. While many would think the Street range of bikes from the American cult brand is for emerging markets, it is indeed a global model to be sold across the world.

The Harley-Davidson Street 750 will be launched in India on the 5th of February at the 2014 Auto Expo. The bike will be priced under Rs. 5 lakhs (on-road) which is sure to attract a lot of people who aren’t able to afford a Harley-Davidson bike due to its hefty price. Currently the cheapest Harley is the SuperLow which costs upwards of Rs. 6.5 lakhs (on-road). The Street project started in 2008 and has seen a hefty investment after a long time. The last time Harley-Davidson invested so much time and effort, it was for the V-ROD.

The Street motorcycles use an all new platform, a first for Harley-Davidson in the past 13 years. While the Street 750 will be sold in India starting from 2014, the Street 500 will only go on sale next year. Both the Street bikes (500 and 750) use the same hardware with the engine being the major differentiator between the two. Both engines are V-twin units employing liquid-cooling and mated to a 6-speed gearbox. To be manufactured locally, India is the only country besides the USA where Harley-Davidson has a manufacturing subsidiary which shows how serious the automaker is about the sub-continent.
