Datsun GO Sedan Russia Front

Nissan revived the Datsun brand in 2013 and the company showcased the GO compact hatchback in India. The company is developing low-cost products for developing countries. After the GO hatchback, the company will now showcase the GO+ MPV at the 2014 Auto Expo. We know that Datsun is also planning to launch an entry-level sedan which will be based on the GO. Spy shots of a new Datsun vehicle have emerged from Russia and there is a high probability that this is the same vehicle that will be launched as the GO sedan, although Datsun has no immediate plans to launch a sedan in India. The Russian model pictured here seems to be underpinned by the Lada Kalina’s platform.

This low-cost sedan from Datsun isn’t going to win any beauty contests. Heck, most of the entry-level sedans in India like the Maruti Swift DZire and Toyota Etios wound’t dare to take part in a beauty contest but then again, in this segment all that matters is pricing and specifications. This vehicle looks quirky at best. The front does resemble the GO hatchback to an extent while the rear has a completely different styling philosophy that most might hate and some might like. The Datsun GO will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that gives out a 68 HP of power and 104 Nm of torque. It is likely that the sedan too will feature the same engine albeit in a slightly higher state of tune.

Datsun should price the sedan very aggressively in order to win customers. The brand is yet unknown in India and the after-sales is surely not as established as its other competitors. The company should focus on getting the pricing and positioning correctly. The Datsun GO hatchback will be launched in 2014 and based on how it performs in the market, the automaker will decide when to launch the sedan. The GO hatchback will compete with the Maruti Alto, Hyundai Eon and Chevrolet Spark, the GO+ MPV will compete with Maruti Ertiga and the GO sedan will compete with the Maruti Swift DZire and Honda Amaze.
