2014 Hyosung GD250N-EXIV Side

DSK-Hyosung revealed at the 2014 Auto Expo its plans to launch their 250cc products, the GD250N and the GT250 Comet in India in the last quarter of 2014. The South Korean company recently launched the Aquila 250 cruiser and showcased the upcoming motorcycles at the 2014 Auto Expo that will be launched in the highly competitive 250cc segment. Both the products offer a completely different riding experience in spite of being 250cc motorcycles and cater to different buyers, after all the engine configuration is poles apart.

The Hyosung GD250N is a naked street fighter motorcycle that carries a striking design language. The motorcycle is powered by a 249cc, single-cylinder engine producing 28 BHP of power and 24 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The bike uses 37 mm inverted forks up at the front and a monoshock setup at the rear. The motorcycle provides sharp handling and weighs 145 kgs. The bike will be competing against the KTM Duke 200 and the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS in its segment. The Hyosung GD250N is expected to be priced around Rs. 1.50 lakhs (ex-showroom) when launched.

Hyosung GT250 Comet Side

The blast from the past will be the GT250 Comet that was sold in the country almost a decade ago by Kinetic, only to have been discontinued later. The Comet 250 retains the street fighter styling and is powered by a 248cc twin-cylinder motor capable of producing 30 HP of power at 10,500 RPM and 20.6 Nm of peak torque at 7300 RPM. The motorcycles features inverted telescopic forks at the front, while the rear gets a monoshock setup. The GT250 Comet will be competing against the Suzuki Inazuma 250 and the KTM Duke 390 in its segment. Expect the pricing to be around Rs. 2.40 lakhs (ex-showroom) when launched in the country.

Considering that both the products are expected to have a price difference of almost a lakh, there won’t be cannibalisation of sales done by either. Hyosung is betting big on the Indian market and is also planning to invest Rs. 350 crore on setting up a manufacturing plant that will produce over 1 lakhs units by 2020. The GD250N and the GT250 Comet will be assembled and sold through the company’s expanding dealership network.
