Kawasaki Z250

Kawasaki has been on a roll in India, launching new products in quick succession. In the past few months, Kawasaki has launched five new motorcycles in the country. Kawasaki has become very serious about its Indian operations and the company wants to be on the top in the premium segment. The automaker is setting up its own dealership network as well and currently has only two showrooms. Kawasaki retails its locally assembled bikes through Bajaj’s probiking showrooms which were converted a couple of years back to KTM outlets.

Post the launch of five CBU models, Kawasaki was expected to bring another imported bike to the country in the form of the Versys 1000. However the automaker’s next launch in India is the Kawasaki Z250, a naked street-fighter which was unveiled a few months back at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. Kawasaki already sells the Z1000 and Z800 in India with the Z250 becoming the third bike from the Z series to go on sale in the country. Kawasaki will launch the Z250 in India by June, priced around Rs. 3 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The Kawasaki Z250 will be brought to India via the CKD route and will compete directly with the Suzuki Inazuma. It will be retailed through both Kawasaki independent dealerships and KTM showrooms. The Kawasaki Z250 is powered by a 249cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. Sounds familiar? This is the same motor that powered the Ninja 250, producing 32 PS of power at 11,000 RPM and coupled to a 6-speed gearbox. Post the launch of the Z250, Kawasaki is expected to launch the Ninja 250 RR Mono in the sub-continent.
