Yamaha FZ Facelift Spy Shot Instrument Console

Yamaha is all set to launch the 2014 FZ facelift with comprehensive updates to the design as well as the engine this year and the bike was spotted on a break in Chennai. The updated 2014 Yamaha FZ resembles heavily to the concept version shown at the 2014 Auto Expo. The Japanese manufacturer is expected to launch the updated FZ in the second half of this year. From what we can see in the spy shots, the updates are quite comprehensive and much needed with competition from other manufacturers gearing up for an onslaught.

The 2014 Yamaha FZ facelift gets a much leaner design language than the current model. The test mule spotted looks agile and lighter than the current version which will also help in the riding dynamics of the motorcycle. The changes on the FZ include a reworked headlight unit, as well as clear lens indicators. Yamaha has also added air scoops below the tank seen on the concept, while a new and slimmer exhaust muffler is also visible. The instrument panel has been replaced by a completely digital unit, inspired from the Honda CB Trigger.

The single seat has been replaced by split seats, and the rear rake is positioned marginally higher. The redesigned tail light cluster and the reworked number plate holder have been separated from the rear seat and now looks much sportier. The rear tyre hugger is also longer than the current model. Yamaha has also equipped the FZ with telescopic front forks and a monoshock setup at the rear.

Mechanically, speculations are rife that the 2014 FZ will come with a bigger rebored engine displacing around 170cc. The engine will be tuned to produce around 17 PS of power, with a significant rise in the torque figures as well. The current 153cc engine producing 14 PS of power could also be on offer for the base variants. The 2014 FZ will be competing against the upcoming Suzuki Gixxer, Honda CB Trigger and Bajaj Pulsar 150.
