The second generation Hyundai i20 is all set to have a world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October this year. However, way ahead of its launch, spy photographers have managed to snap images of what the rear and the interiors of the hatchback look like, while the front and the side profile were hidden with camouflage. The 2015 Hyundai i20 is being extensively tested globally and is being developed at the company’s new Nurburgring testing centre.
The images show that the rear profile of the Hyundai i20 gets a complete overhaul compared to the current model. The rear tail lights have an interesting boomerang style design, while the boot-lid is rather bulbous with masculine body panels. The design is a major departure from the current model which in spite of sharing the fluidic platform looks boring in front of the next generation model. The faux cover of the C-pillars also gives the illusion of the rear windscreen to be a wraparound single unit. Compared to the flamboyant lines on the older i20, the rear did seem rather sobered up to a more European design language.
On the inside as well, the spy shots reveal that the next generation Hyundai i20 has taken inspiration from the new Sonata. The quirky interior styling has been replaced by a softer and sharper lines for a more contemporary and sober look. The interiors also showcased a strong use of black all over. While the front could not be caught sans camouflage, expect the front fascia to carry the new hexagonal grille on the next generation i20 with sweptback headlights and daytime running lights.
Hyundai has also lowered the roof height of the hatchback for a more coupe like look, while there is a marginal increase in space compared to the current model. Expect the Korean manufacturer to give the vehicle a whole new set of segment first features, while engine options could be limited to the current 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol units and 1.1-litre and 1.4-litre diesel mills. Hyundai is said to also be working on the i20 GT which will be the sports edition with the new performance N badge on the hatchback.
