BMW M6 Gran Coupe Launch

Showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo in February, BMW has launched the M6 Gran Coupe in India at an event in Delhi today. Based on the 6-Series Gran Coupe, the M6 Gran Coupe is the mad house four-door coming with M power underpinnings. The unveil happened in the presence of the master blaster and BMW brand ambassador Sachin Tendulkar in February. The M6 Gran Coupe gets the styling from the regular 6-Series version, albeit with subtle additions of M equipment, visible across the car.

The BMW M6 Gran Coupe gets massive air intakes, pronounced wheel arches and side grilles to help distinguish the M version. BMW has given subtle upgrades including the quad tipped exhausts and the carbon fibre roof which enhances the aesthetic appeal of the M6 GC. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe has a beast residing under the hood, which if unleashed can take the roads by storm. With the coupe roofline at the rear, the ingress and egress is a bit of a hassle though, but a small price to pay for the staggering power engulfed in luxury.

The BMW M6 Gran Coupe is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine capable of producing 552 BHP of power and 680 Nm of torque, the same motor also powers the M5. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DCT transmission which sends the power to the rear wheels. 0-100 km/hr comes up in 4.2 seconds, while the top speed has been electronically limited to 250 km/hr, which can be removed to achieve a top speed of 305 km/hr with a special M pack. The M Dynamic Damper Control helps tune the suspension for a soft or a firm ride. Drivers can also choose from different driving modes namely Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ for comfort driving or outrageous performance.

Essentially, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe is targeted at the wealthy few who want a performance outburst with the comfort of ferrying his family around occasionally. Much like the regular 6-Series models, BMW is bringing the M6 Gran Coupe as a fully imported unit in the country and has been priced at Rs. 1,75,40,000 (ex-showroom, India). The M6 Gran Coupe competes against the rubber burners, the Audi RS7 and the Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG (CLS 63 AMG is not offered in India) but costs a whole lot more with its Rs. 1.75 crore pricing.
