Tata Nano Twist Active Scoop

Tata Motors showcased the Nano Twist Active at the 2014 Auto Expo and this version of the cute little hatchback is a significantly updated model which carries out quite some major changes. The Nano isn’t what we call a good-selling vehicle since the monthly sales numbers are very less than what was expected by its manufacturer. Tata Motors has been updating the Nano with mild changes every now and then but the Nano Twist Active is all set to take on its rivals since it comes with some much-needed features.

The vehicle has been spotted undergoing testing in Pune. The test mule is highly camouflaged and we can also spot a Tata Manza giving the Nano company. The exteriors of the Nano have been redesigned by Tata Motors and the front now features a new bumper, black lip at the bottom part of the bonnet, slightly more appealing headlamps and new fog lamp holders. No major changes in the side profile except for the black strip below the windowsills. The rear again features a new bumper and the obvious opening tail gate.

These cosmetic changes give a very premium feel to the vehicle which seemed quite bare-basic until now. Buyers should be happy with the changes since the Nano Twist Active will surely appeal more. The biggest grouse that buyers of the Nano had was that the boot did not have a fully-opening hatch. Tata Motors has finally carried out this change and now the Nano Twist Active features an opening tail gate just like any other hatchback.

The company had to strengthen some vital body components to carry the load of the opening tail gate and hence the Nano is now 80 kgs heavier than the previous version. The fuel tank capacity has also been increased from 15-litres to 25-litres. The Tata Nano Twist Active also comes loaded with a speed-sensitive steering developed by ZF. The same unit is already offered on the Nano Twist.

The other significant change is the F-Tronic AMT gearbox on the Nano Twist Active. Automatic transmission vehicle sales are gaining momentum and buyers prefer something that offers the maximum bang for the buck. This vehicle will find a good amount of buyers but we feel Tata should re-brand the vehicle since people have already perceived the Nano as a ‘cheap’ car.
