2015 Volkswagen Jetta Front

Volkswagen released the photos and specifications of the 2015 Jetta ahead of its global debut at the 2014 New York International Auto Show set to commence by the end of this week. The 2015 model is not a new generation model, but rather a mid-life cycle update to keep the saloon fresh in the market. While the design and styling changes on the Jetta facelift may not be revolutionary, the changes are several to take note of along with significant updates to engine options under the hood.

On the outset, the steam pressed design language continues on the 2015 Jetta as well with the sharp lines and angular design. The front fascia gets subtle upgrades, but not significant enough to easily tell them apart from the current model. The update includes a more Passat like front grille, while the new headlights feature bi-Xenon lighting with integrated LED daytime running lights that now feature adaptive front lighting system that follows the steering angle for better field of vision. The Jetta facelift also gets larger lower air-intakes and redesigned fog lights.

The rear on the other hand receives the Audi A4-like tail lights. The 2015 Jetta also gets active grille shutters and special spoilers that will feature on certain variants of the saloon. On the inside, the interior shares several components with the 2014 Golf Mk7. The cabin sports a far more premium appeal with the use of new materials and better quality plastics. The cabin sports a new sporty flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel, instrument cluster and automatic air=con controls. The centre console sports a new piano black finish, while the chrome accents provide a premium touch.

With Volkswagen’s plan to promote turbo engines in the future for the US market, the company will launch a new 1.4-litre TSI turbo petrol mill producing 150 PS of power on the Jetta. The saloon also gets the 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine options from the current car. Diesel duties will be completed by an updated 2.0-litre TDI engine (which now produces 150 PS of power, up 10 PS over the old unit) coupled with the new automatic stop-start and battery energy recuperation system offered as standard. Volkswagen says the new diesel engine returns a fuel efficiency of 19.13 km/l (US drive-cycle).

The 2015 Volkswagen Jetta also gets a great deal of new advanced safety features which include Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Frontal Collision Warning. Being Volkswagen USA’s bestselling model, the changes will help keep the Jetta fresh for another couple of years. Volkswagen will also unveil a new SportWagon variant based on the Jetta, to be called as a Golf at the New York Auto Show. The 2015 Jetta will compete with the Toyota Corolla, new Ford Focus and the Nissan Sentra in the American market and is expected to hit the showrooms during the third quarter of 2014.
