2015 Chevrolet Aveo

China is a very important market for General Motors and the company has seen volumes grow in the country for its entire range of vehicles. It is also the only market where they still haven’t had massive recalls. The Detroit based car maker has now previewed the China specific new Chevrolet Aveo compact sedan that goes on sale in June this year. A comprehensive redesign over the previous model, the new Aveo has been designed with inputs from GM’s Pan Asia Technical Automotive Centre (PATAC) in Shanghai and adopts a youth friendly design language.

The front fascia of the 2015 Chevrolet Aveo is reminiscent of the new Chevrolet Cruze for the Chinese market. The new chrome induced dual port grille lends a striking impact to the design and integrates completely with the redesigned angular headlight clusters, while the bumper receives a redesign and now features triangular housing for the fog lamps. The side profile gets pronounced wheel arches that house the new 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped with Bridgestone tyres. The receding shoulder line extends to the rear fender that is complimented by the outward extending belt line on the sedan.

The rear on the other hand transpires to have a soft body language with butterfly shaped tail lights, while the raised rear spoiler offers visual appeal with aerodynamics. The boot-lid features a chrome garnish in the centre, stacked above the number plate housing. While we do feel the rear could have been better; GM states that the wide looking stance of the rear is in line with the aesthetic preferences of Chinese car buyers. The 2015 Aveo also gets body coloured mirrors with turn indicators and gets concealed exhaust pipe design, a seldom feature in small cars.

The powertrain has not been revealed as yet for the 2015 Chevrolet Aveo, but GM states that compact sedan will get an unspecified Ecotec DVVT engine carried over from the older model, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The current model comes with a 1.4-litre mill producing 97 HP and a 1.6-litre powerplant producing 119 HP of power. GM states the Aveo will come with spacious interiors and a host of safety equipment. Complete details of the all new Aveo will emerge next month, when the car goes on sale in China.
