2014 Mahindra Scorpio Limited Edition-

Call it stock clearance or just a move to keep the sales momentum going, the idea of a limited edition model has been sucked dry. However, manufacturers still bring out special editions, limited editions and what not to keep the customers interested in their products and showcase the lack of any marketing innovation. Indian manufacturer Mahindra too has succumbed to this practice and has silently launched the Scorpio Limited Edition with the production limited to 500 units only.

In addition to the stock Mahindra Scorpio, the limited edition model gets pearl finished white paintjob, new body graphics and chrome alloy wheels on the outside. The cabin on the other hand gets European leather interiors in tan and beige colours, integrated roof-mounted DVD player with 9-inch screen, leather wrapped gear shift, gear knob and steering wheel; and dual front airbags. The central bezel has been finished in high gloss wood finish. Interestingly, not so long ago the Mahindra Bolero too was offered with a limited edition model that featured ABS and Bluetooth connectivity and was limited to 500 units only.

Mechanically the Mahindra Scorpio Limited Edition does not sport any changes and is powered by the same 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine that produces 120 BHP of power and 290 Nm of torque, paired to 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions. While the price for the limited edition model has not been announced; expect a marginal premium to be charged for the added goodies. The top-end Mahindra Scorpio VLX variant is priced at Rs. 11.16 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Mahindra Scorpio is due for a facelift later this year that will receive a rather comprehensive upgrade including changes to the exterior design and a refreshed and more upmarket cabin which will keep the model fresh till the next generation version arrives. The next generation Mahindra Scorpio on the other hand will be launched after a gap of two years.
