2013 Vespa Primavera

Piaggio, which sells the Vespa series of scooters in India right from 2012, is known to keep its products pricey. The company targets only niche customers with their two-wheelers who don’t mind paying a premium to own these stylish and retro scooters. While rivals like Honda, Hero and Suzuki have marched far ahead when it comes to market share, Piaggio is not too worried since they are not focusing on capturing the market as of now. The Italian manufacturer sells the Vespa LX 125, Vespa VX 125 and Vespa S currently. Earlier this month, the Vespa Esclusivo limited edition was launched and now Piaggio is all set to launch the Vespa Elegante in India.

The Vespa Elegante will be based on the Vespa VX 125 but it will carry some styling changes to make it look different and exclusive from the regular Vespa models. Some other elements like the triangular grille, round headlight, retro split seats, etc. will be borrowed from the Vespa Primavera which is another variant of the scooter selling overseas. Vespa scooters already come with funky and attention-grabbing colours and this palette will be passed on to the Elegante too. However, the Elegante will also get a couple of new shades like Pearl White and Marrakech Brown.

The Vespa Elegante will be powered by the same 125cc engine that powers other scooters in the Vespa range. This engine produces 10 BHP of power and 10.6 Nm of torque. Piaggio offers a host of customization options for buyers of the Vespa scooter. Since the number of customers are less, buyers prefer to keep their scooters slightly exclusive by opting for these customisation options. The present Vespa range is priced from Rs. 68,272 to 76,495/- (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and the Vespa Elegante will be slightly costlier at approximately Rs. 80,000/- and it will be launched during the festive season later this year.
