Skoda has finally pulled the wraps off the 2015 Fabia hatchback online ahead of the official debut at the Paris Motor Show in October this year. Based on the MQB platform, the new Fabia looks stunning with the symmetrical lines giving the hatchback a stronger and bolder appeal with influences coming from the automaker’s new ‘VisionC’ design language. The hatchback has grown wider, while the cabin now offers more space without increasing the length of the car.
The 2015 Skoda Fabia will enter production by the end of August at the automaker’s main plant at Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic. Skoda’s other facilities too have upgraded the paint shops and assembly lines after a two week shut down for refurbishment and will commence production of the next generation Fabia in full swing. Skoda states that it will be pushing forward the biggest model campaign in the history for the Fabia and the debut is in line with the brand’s latest corporate identity.
Coming to the cabin of the 2015 Fabia, Skoda stated that the automaker will offer high levels of individualization on the premium hatchback. The opportunity for customization will extend on the outside as well as the new Fabia will be available in 15 different body colours as well as a special colour concept that gives customers a chance to individually select the colour of the roof, rims and exterior mirrors. The new Fabia is also 65 kgs lighter than its predecessor.
The powerplants too have been reworked upon and the 2015 Skoda Fabia will be available with a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder TSI motor producing in the range of 60 PS to 110 PS of power, while the 1.4-litre 3-cylinder TDI motor will be available in three states of tune ranging from 75 PS to 105 PS of power. All variants of the new Fabia will get Start-Stop system as well as Brake Energy Recuperation system as standard. Transmission options will include a manual and DSG automatic.
Skoda states that the engine lineup is 17 percent more frugal than the outgoing model. The 2015 Skoda Fabia will go on sale across Europe immediately after its Paris Motor Show debut. Competing internationally against the Suzuki Swift, Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo, Renault Clio and the likes in the segment, it is still uncertain whether Skoda will bring the new Fabia to India again. Prices for the European lineup will be announced closer to the launch date.
