Audi continues to test the 2015 TT sports car in Mumbai, while the launch is scheduled sometime during next year. The automaker will continue to bring the model as a CBU unit.
Scheduled for launch some time during next year, we spotted the 2015 Audi TT sports car while doing its test rounds on the streets of Mumbai. As usual with Audi models testing in the city, the new TT did not sport any camouflage but also missed out on the variant badges at the rear. Globally unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year, the third generation TT is based on Volkswagen Group’s new MQB platform and is 50 kgs lighter than the outgoing model. The 2015 TT is also a major departure compared to the existing model in terms of design.
For those who called the vehicle cute, the new 2015 Audi TT gets an aggressive treatment with razor sharp lines and sporty front and rear bumpers. The grille is a lot more dynamic, while the inclusion of LED headlamps with Matrix LED technology adds to the sporty appeal. Despite the changes, the new TT has very much retained its original silhouette and can be easily distinguished courtesy of its quirky styling. In addition, you now get frameless doors, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust pipes and even an active rear spoiler as standard on the 2015 TT.
Powering the 2015 TT is the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder TFSI petrol engine available in two states of tune. The TFSI motor produces 230 PS for the regular model, while the more powerful TT-S makes 310 PS of power from the same engine. There is also a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine on offer that makes 184 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque. In India however, the 2015 TT will be offered only in the petrol version, while the TT-S trim could be a possibility. All engines come mated to a 6-speed manual or a DSG automatic transmission, with the Indian model getting the latter as standard.
Another major upgrade on the third generation Audi TT is the new 12.3-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster that replaces all physical gauges and the centre console pop-up display unit. The all digital instrument cluster is completely customisable and will also be available on the next generation R8. The 2015 TT is produced at Audi’s facility in Hungary and will be brought to the country as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) much like the outgoing version. The Audi TT competes against the BMW Z4, Mercedes SLK and the likes in the segment.
