Maruti Suzuki has finally launched the 2015 Swift facelift in the country with prices starting at Rs. 4.42 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). ‘Reborn’ as Maruti calls it, the refreshed model comes with a host of changes to the exteriors and interiors that has made the sporty hatchback even more value for money, while also being more fuel efficient than before. The company has sold over 12 lakh units of the Swift till date in the country.

Design – The 2015 Maruti Swift facelift gets a mild revision in terms of design that does little to make any difference. Changes include tweaked front bumper and grille with new silver inserts (no LED DRLs) on the fog lamp enclosure, new alloy wheels and electrically adjustable ORVMs with integrated turn indicators. On the inside, the changes are very subtle and include new fabric upholstery, while the cabin gets silver accents across the dashboard, steering wheel and door trims. A total of 6 colours are on offer on the new Swift including 3 new colours, Mysterious Violet, Fire Red and Granite Grey along with Pearl Arctic White, Silky Silver and Glistening Grey.

Features – The 2015 Swift facelift comes loaded now with all the bells and whistles available on the top-end ZXi/ZDi variants. You get start-stop button, keyless entry (i key), automatic climate control, tilt steering, height adjustable driver’s seat, updated audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, new MID screen on the instrument cluster, steering mounted illuminated controls, 60:40 split rear seats and an additional reading/map light. The hatchback also gets reverse parking sensors, dual front airbags, improved ABS with EBD and Boost Assist System (ABS) braking as part of standard kit.

Engines – The biggest change of all, Maruti has made major tweaks to the existing petrol and diesel engines on the new Swift for enhanced fuel efficiency. Starting with the petrol, the 1.2-litre K-Series 4-cylinder petrol engine now produces 84.3 PS at 6000 RPM as opposed to 87 PS of power on the older model, while torque has increased to 115 Nm at 4000 RPM from the previous 114 Nm. The company made changes to the compression ratio from 10.0:1 to 11.0:1 which has helped achieve a 10 percent higher fuel efficiency of 20.4 km/l (older model returned 18.5 km/l).

The 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine however does not get any changes and continues to produce 75 PS at 4000 RPM and 190 Nm of torque at 2000 RPM, but is now more fuel efficient by 10 percent and returns 25.2 km/l (older model returned 22.9 km/l) courtesy of the changes made to the hatchback’s ECU. All figures ARAI certified.

Prices – Maruti Suzuki has not made a radical change to the pricing. The model starts at the Rs. 4.42 lakh figure, while the higher variants see an escalation of prices with a difference between Rs. 10,000/- to Rs. 24,000/- depending on the variant.

The facelifted Swift was long awaited since the beginning of the year. The comprehensive updates do come at a time when the competition boasts of better tech on board and was making the Swift look old in comparison. Nonetheless, the updated features come at a marginally escalated price and will surely help the automaker boost sales of its hatchback even further. The last in the segment to receive upgrades this year, the Swift competes against the Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Elite i20, Fiat Punto Evo and also the upcoming Tata Bolt in the segment.
