The Yamaha D’elight sports a retro school charm and will be pitted agains the Vespa

Rising steadily in the scooter segment with the Ray Series and Alpha models, Yamaha India is betting big on the scooter space and has planned a new set of launches in the coming year. While the model to be launched next has not been confirmed yet, the D’elight scooter was spotted for the first time in the country and could make it to the Indian shores later next year. Launched in Europe last year, the 114cc D’elight scooter comes with retro looks and a potent engine that would be locking horns with the very niche Vespa range, but will be considerably cheaper than the Italians in terms of pricing.

Internationally, the Yamaha D’elight uses a 114cc single-cylinder engine with a fuel injection system that is tuned to produce 7.2 PS of power at 7000 RPM and 7.6 Nm of torque at 5500 RPM. The same motor might not be used on the India spec model as the Japanese manufacturer will continue using the 113cc single-cylinder motor seen on the existing Ray and Alpha models. The scooter uses telescopic front forks, while stopping power comes from a 180 mm front disc brake. With a weight of just 98 kgs, Yamaha states that the D’elight offers an overwhelming power to weight ratio and the agility of a 50cc scooter while riding on 12-inch tyres.

The Yamaha D’elight is very European in styling with an old school charm. The scooter gets a round headlamp with chrome bezels and large chrome inserts dawning the front fascia. The rear on the other hand gets an exposed engine, while the tail lights are reminiscent of the Suzuki Hayabusa for its design. The instrument console also continues with the retro look completing the aesthetics. In addition, the D’elight is also very practical with an external fuel filler at the front and a full sized helmet under-seat storage capacity. Yamaha will be positioning the D’elight as a premium offering and is expected to price it around Rs. 55,000/- (ex-showroom) in the country.
