The international markets are expected to get the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit

Scheduled for a late 2015 launch, Maruti Suzuki has commenced testing its new hatchback codenamed YRA in the country as the model was spotted testing around the company’s facility near Gurgaon. Already revealed through a series of spy shots on a number of occasions, the new YRA holds significant value for the company as it will be competing in the premium B-segment space against the Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo, the upcoming Honda Jazz and the likes.

Suzuki says to have addressed all the short comings of the Swift with the new YRA premium hatchback. This equates to the fact that the new YRA will be getting a bigger cabin with lots more space on offer than the Swift. The model will also be tech laden, while the interior layout seen in the spy shots shouts of a clutter-free design. The YRA is also expected to be lighter than the Swift at around 90 kgs that will not only offer better fuel efficiency but improved performance as well. The boot capacity will also see a significant increase compared to the Swift, making it a very practical offering.

While technical information is still scarce, we do know that the new Maruti YRA will draw power from the 1.2-litre K-Series motor most likely in a higher state of tune, while the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel mill with 90 HP of power and 200 Nm of torque will also be on offer. Internationally, the model is likely to get the newly developed 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine as part of its lineup. Scheduled to be unveiled officially at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March, India is expected to be one of the first markets to get the YRA hatchback globally with the model being exported from the country to European markets.
