The Bosch ABS Light gets high-performance components & also uses the same software

Bajaj Auto is certainly gearing up for an exciting 2015 with as many as six new launches planned over the next six months. With the company’s highly awaited Pulsar 200 SS scheduled for launch this year, news comes in that the upcoming flagship full-faired sports bike will come equipped with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) as optional. While the addition of ABS was known to feature on the 200 SS, the system has been sourced from Bosch and is the low-cost unit developed for emerging markets across the globe.

The 2015 Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS has completed its pre-production testing and is ready to hit the markets in the following weeks. Termed as ‘Bosch ABS Light’, the safety system has been derived from the company’s high-performance systems and uses the same components as well. The ABS unit also uses the same software seen on bigger systems but has been optimised for emerging markets, resulting in low cost of production. The end-user will pay Rs. 10,000/- more for ABS while dual-channel systems cost close to Rs. 30,000/-.

Certainly a welcome addition, this is a single-channel ABS unit and will only be effective on the front wheel of the Pulsar 200 SS; whereas the rear will come equipped with a disc brake. Nonetheless, the system should be effective for safe stopping under hard braking conditions, especially on a slippery road. Bajaj will be offering the 200 SS in two variants with the non-ABS trim expected to be priced at around Rs. 1.10 lakhs (around Rs. 20,000/- more expensive than the 200 NS) and the ABS equipped trim priced around Rs. 1.20 lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). The full-faired Pulsar will be fuel-injected.
