The Nozza Grande will be competing against the Piaggio Vespa range and will be produced at Yamaha’s Chennai manufacturing plant.

The Yamaha Nozza Grande is specifically designed for Asian markets

Yamaha’s 125cc scooter was a long-standing mystery that the company managed to keep under wraps for quite some time now. Going by the codename 04X, it is now believed that the Nozza Grande 125cc scooter was caught testing for the first time in Chennai with minimal camouflage. Expected to be launched later this year in the country, the Nozza Grand originates from Vietnam where it went on sale last year and is likely to get a different nameplate when launched in India.

With the Yamaha Nozza Grande specifically designed for Asian markets, there is a thick chance that the scooter will come to India. A retro inspired design language coupled with striking modern lines defines the styling on the scooter. Compared to the Vietnam version, the spy shot showcases the scooter with a tweaked tail light cluster while the exposed engine will go down well with young audiences. There is also an abundant amount of chrome seen on the scooter, another +1 for the Indian masses.

In terms of powertrain, the Vietnam spec Yamaha Nozza Grande is powered by a 125cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine with fuel-injection. The scooter comes with telescopic front forks and spring loaded shocks along with drum brakes at the front and rear. Other features on the scooter include analog instrument console with digital display, LED pilot lamp and under seat storage light.

For the Vietnam version, the Yamaha Nozza Grande claims a fuel efficiency of 54 km/l and has been priced at around Rs. 84,000/- (Indian equivalent). For the Indian version though, the scooter is likely to miss out on fuel injection to keep costs in check. If launched in India, the Nozza Grande 125 will be competing against the Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Access, Piaggio Vespa and the upcoming line of 125cc scooters in the segment.

The automatic scooter space is the fastest growing segment in the Indian auto market at 21 percent this fiscal and Yamaha will surely want to capture a major chunk of this space before more manufacturers join the lineup. Expected to come with the impressive handling and riding dynamics seen on the Alpha and Ray models, the Nozza Grande will be a stellar offering which rivals need to watch out for in the country.
