The 2015 DZire beats the Maruti Ciaz as the most fuel efficient car in India

The months of speculations and spy shots have finally come to an end with Maruti Suzuki officially launching the 2015 Swift DZire facelift in India, prices starting at Rs. 5,07,883/- (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base petrol version. While the design may not be a major leap from the outgoing model, the new Swift DZire has been updated with an extensive list of features bringing it on par with the competition; while the fuel efficiency has seen a significant increase, making the compact sedan India’s most fuel efficient vehicle.

Receiving updated powertrains under the hood, the 2015 Maruti DZire facelift continues with the same 1.2-litre K-Series VVT petrol engine that now produces 84.3 PS of power at 6000 RPM (lower than the outgoing version) but gets 1 Nm increase in torque to 115 Nm. Diesel power comes from the 1.3-litre DDiS motor that returns the same 75 PS at 4000 RPM and 190 Nm of torque at 2000 RPM. Both the engines are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard; while the petrol also comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission on offer.

Maruti says the low power and high torque on the petrol engine comes courtesy of the high compression ratio that helped in achieving the improved fuel efficiency; while the advanced thermal management system did the magic on the diesel unit along with low friction engine oil and a modified fuel injection system that allows the diesel engine to warm up faster, resulting in lower friction losses. As a result, the diesel version returns an ARAI certified mileage of 26.59 km/l, witnessing a 13 percent increase; whereas the petrol now returns 20.95 km/l, witnessing a 9 percent increase over the outgoing version.

In terms of changes, the 2015 Maruti DZire facelift gets updated with new chrome grille, revised front and rear bumpers with chrome inserts on the fog lamps, smoked headlight cluster and new alloy wheels. Moving inside the cabin, the compact sedan comes with updated features like electrically retractable ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, engine push start/stop button, premium upholstery with wood finish dashboard, front and rear 12V sockets, two map lamps, audio and Bluetooth controls on the steering wheel, backdoor operation electromagnet and reverse parking sensors as standard on the higher variants.

Maruti Suzuki has sold over 9.12 lakh units of the DZire in the country since its launch in February 2008 and the car has been one of the top three selling vehicles in the auto market for the past three years. The company has added four new colours to the palette namely Cave black, Alp Blue, Magma Grey and Sangria Red and is available in a total of eight trims spread across two engines.
