BMW has just rolled out 20 lakh units of the 1-Series which is its entry-level car in its vast lineup. The vehicle was launched in India a couple of years back and sales in our country haven’t contributed much to the overall number.

2014 BMW 1-Series Petrol Review
The 1-Series is an entry point to the BMW brand the world-over

The 1-Series from the garage of Bavarian Motor Works has grabbed millions of souls across the globe. Targeting the mass, the 1-Series was introduced to the auto world 11 years ago which replaced the compact 3-Series, thus making it the most affordable BMW. During these years, the 1-Series has seen plenty of facelifts and has been competing aggressively with its counterparts from Mercedes-Benz and Audi. Being a volume player, the company confirmed a few days ago that BMW completed the 2 millionth build of its 1-Series model at the Regensburg plant in Germany.

The 2 millionth build is an M Sport package equipped 120i 5-door, painted in Estoril Blue metallic. This landmark car is scheduled to be delivered to a customer in Japan. We are sure that the Japanese customer would be pretty happy because not only this special build belongs to the facelift model but also because it belongs to the first lot of exports.

The new BMW 1-Series is scheduled to be launched on 28th March in Germany. The youngest generation BMW 1-Series has been under a major overhaul with a refined exteriorand interior and more powerful as well as fuel-efficient engines. New equipment features such as standard-fitted iDrive operating system, full-LED headlights (available as an option for the 1-Series for the first time) and Connected Drive line-up are embedded in the facelifted models. The new 1-Series has plenty of options with the mills being offered in both petrol and diesel, which includes the latest generation three and four cylinders churning out as little as 109 PS and a 6-cylinder in-line engine with M Performance Twin-Power Turbo technology churning 326 PS. Apart from the multi engine options, the body is offered in both 3 and 5-door styles.

The driving experience is enhanced by coupling BMW’s latest generation xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system, but is limited to the M135i, 118d and 120d models and that too as an option. While the 3-door body is being built exclusively at Regensburg, the 5-door is being produced at the Leipzig plant as well. Meanwhile in India, the 1-Series hasn’t found much success and sells in limited numbers.
