After facing a down-slaught in sales in the commuter segment, Bajaj is now readying a new brand to tackle Hero MotoCorp and Honda.

The new bike will make use of the same 125cc engine as the Discover

The two-wheeler market in India is a very huge one and even though sales of performance bikes are gaining momentum, it is largely the commuter segment that still has the most market share and boasts of the highest sales in the industry. Even though we have so many companies selling two-wheelers in India, it is Hero MotoCorp, Honda and Bajaj who are at the top. Bajaj Auto has been losing out on sales lately while Hero and Honda are on a constant rise. To tackle this issue, Bajaj is now coming up with a new commuter brand that will cater to the mass-market and that will help the company regain a strong foothold in the market.

Bajaj has been launching a lot of variants of the Pulsar in the recent times. The Pulsar brand continues to do well but the Discover and Platina aren’t performing too nicely. The new commuter brand that Bajaj will introduce will be slotted between these two products and it is likely that the new product will share its underpinnings with the Discover. The Indian bike manufacturer is targeting the Honda Shine and Hero Glamour with the new offering. It is highly probable that the new bike will come with the same 124.6cc engine that gives out 11.5 PS of power and 10.8 Nm of torque.

However, the 125cc bike will only be the first offering from the new brand and later on the company will come up with new products too. Earlier, buyers in the commuter segment only looked for fuel efficiency as a major deciding factor but now looks and comfort too are considered at by a lot of people. So what Bajaj needs to do is come up with something that offers a blend of style, comfort and of course efficiency. Once all this is done, good marketing for the product is all that is needed for it to succeed.
