Originally from the 60’s, cafe racers were built by riders in the Queen’s land to race from one cafe bar to another, offering short bursts of high speeds from what were essentially daily riding motorcycles. While cafe racers were quite popular across Europe till the mid-70’s, they soon fell on a back burner as the riders found their kicks in other offerings. In today’s world though, it was Royal Enfield that brought the iconic style back to life with the Continental GT (CGT) and surely popularised the retro cool factor once again. The high price tag on the CGT though ensured that the bike was restricted to the affluent few, but Hero MotoCorp was quick to think and took the concept to the masses with its Splendor Pro Classic.

In its latest TV commercial for the Splendor Pro Classic, Hero highlights the concept of cafe racing and its culture, bringing back the idea of riding into the oblivion. Cafe racers were just more than fast machines, it was about riding with friends, exploring new places, and celebrating the spirit of motorcycles which the ad wonderfully highlights. While the original cafe racers were hefty machines with mid-sized engines, this humble offering here is powered by a small 97.2cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine tuned to produce 8.36 PS of power and 8.05 Nm of torque, paired to a 4-speed gearbox.

Despite its small dimensions, the Hero Splendor Pro Classic boasts of a good build quality and frankly is the best looking 100cc motorcycle to go on sale in the country. While the 535cc engine with 29 BHP powered Royal Enfield Continental GT may have kick-started the trend, it is indeed the Pro Classic that makes the idea easily attainable. In essence though, both the bikes celebrate motorcycling and cafe racers in their own special way which is evident from Royal Enfield’s Cafe Racer film as well. Check that out below.
