A video on YouTube has revealed the NVH levels of the upcoming Maruti Celerio diesel. The diesel mill is well refined and fares well when compared with the 1.3-litre diesel engine which powers the Swift.

2014 Maruti Celerio Test Drive Review
The Maruti Celerio diesel will sell in good numbers as it is very frugal

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is quite a successful hatchback. The popularity of the same further accentuated when the company offered it with an AMT unit. The Celerio is only sold with a petrol motor at the moment and will be launched with a diesel engine on the 3rd of June. The 793cc twin-cylinder diesel motor has been developed in-house and is also Maruti’s first self-developed oil burner. The company is holding high expectations from the Celerio diesel and according to a latest video, they seem to have done a pretty good job on the car.

The video on YouTube gives us a first look of the Celerio diesel’s engine and how it fares in the noise department when revved hard. Engine noise has been compared with the Fiat sourced 1.3-litre diesel unit which powers the Swift. When heard from the front, the Celerio diesel is not too loud as compared to the Swift. This comes as a surprise because the 793cc motor is only a two-cylinder mill. However, the same cannot be said when the hood is open. The Celerio makes a harsh racket in contrast to the more refined noise of the Swift’s motor. This is also the case when the two cars are heard from behind.

The smaller hatchback was also taken for a ride. Acceleration in the lower rev bands seemed to be quite impressive and the air conditioning unit was also given an up-vote, which is mainly in line with other cars from the same stable. Maruti has also done well to keep NVH levels low inside the cabin as the engine noise is insulated better than expected. Overall, the Celerio diesel is already giving a good feeling with its lightweight engine which weighs just 89 kgs. The hatchback is definitely a good proposition as it returns an ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of 27.62 km/l, making it the most fuel efficient car in India.
