The super sport Pulsar 200 will be different from the RS 200 in terms of styling and will be a lot more track focused in comparison.

Pulsar RS 200 Track Review
Bajaj specifies that the RS 200 is not for the track and is more of a full faired tourer

Bajaj Auto with its flagship Pulsar brand continues to impress the enthusiast with impressive power output and the value for money quotient. However, if you thought the newest Pulsar Race Sport (RS) 200 was the best the automaker could do with full faired bikes, news now comes in that there is a new ‘super sport’ Pulsar 200 under development that will be launched in the future. A shocking surprise to be frank, reports suggest that the Pulsar SS 200 (probably called) will be a more track focused offering than the RS 200 and will also be introduced with a 400cc version later in the timeline. At this time, we should take this news with a bucket load of salt because Bajaj launching a super sport version of the Pulsar will only eat into the sales of their own KTM RC 200.

That certainly is an unprecedented move to be coming from Bajaj Auto! This also explains the automaker’s decision to consciously negate the RS 200 as an offering not for the track (see image below) and instead position the model as a full faired tourer. While a time frame has not been mentioned yet, we could see the SS 200 coming during the next financial year followed by the 400cc version being launched near the end of the next fiscal year. What we can anticipate though is that the Pulsar SS 200 will be lighter than the RS 200 which weighs at 165 kgs (20 kgs more than the 200 NS) and will see several improvements, possibly higher power output from the 199.5cc fuel-injected engine. A dual-channel ABS could be saved by Bajaj to feature on the track focused offering.

With the SS 200, the Pulsar 200 brand will be divided into four categories including naked sport, race sport, adventure sport and super sport; making the customers spoilt for choice. Apart from the new Pulsars, Bajaj Auto is also working to launch two new motorcycle brands in the Indian market, with the first being an executive motorcycle brand in the 125-150cc segment that is expected to be launched within this financial year, while the other offering could most likely be a new cruiser with a 400cc engine and will take on the offerings from Royal Enfield. The new cruiser is expected to be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and will hit the market during the 2016-17 fiscal.

Furthermore, Bajaj will also expand the sub-200cc Pulsar lineup with the 150 NS scheduled to launch towards the end of this year, whereas there will also be a 180 Pulsar Adventure Sport that will hit the market in the first half of FY2016. Coming back to the Pulsar SS 200, it will be interesting to see how Bajaj positions the model differently from its orange sibling, the KTM RC 200 in the same space. We have now lost count of the number of Pulsars that the company will have on sale in the future.
