Having a spirited 2015, Volvo India has launched the V40 premium luxury hatchback in the country with prices starting at Rs. 24.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Swedish automaker’s most affordable offering in India, the Volvo V40 sits below the V40 Cross Country in the company’s lineup and loses the extra body cladding, skid plates, roof rails and raised ground clearance to make the most of the performance under the hood. The V40 is the automaker’s third major launch this year after the V40 Cross Country petrol and the highly awaited new generation XC90 luxury SUV.

Starting with the aesthetics, the 2015 Volvo V40 looks the same as its Cross Country version but gets a revised front fascia sporting a mildly redesigned bumper with LED DRLs, while the rear gets gloss black finished diffuser and gets twin exhaust pipes with a satin chrome finish. Compared to the Cross Country, the V40 also gets a lowered suspension for improved handling on the hatchback. On the inside, the V40 gets the same layout as its rugged sibling and sports a host of features including an adaptive digital display console, cruise control, fixed panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, multi-function steering wheel, TFT touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and Bluetooth, USB and AUX connectivity.

You also get auto bending headlights, Park Assist pilot, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear parking camera, rain sensors, climate control and a whole lot more. Coming to the plethora of safety features that Volvo models are known for, the V40 is well equipped with  7 airbags with pedestrian airbag, City Safety Technology, emergency brake assist, ABS, ASC, DSTC among other features. Currently available only in the diesel guise, power on the Volvo V40 comes from a 2.0-litre turbo diesel that produces 150 HP and 350 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Volvo has also introduced the R Design variant on the V40 that gets sporty exterior and interior upgrades over the regular version. Customers also get to choose from 16-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels on the premium hatchback. With so much power on offer, the smallest Volvo is actually the most powerful hatchback in its class. Brought in via the CBU route, the V40 is competitively priced as it competes against the Mercedes-Benz A-Class (also brought in as a CBU) and BMW 1-Series (assembled in India).
