Ford has commenced customer clinics for the next generation Fiesta in Brazil that has been codenamed B500 and will be launched in 2017 as a 2018 year model.
A recent news report claims that Ford has started conducting customer clinics for the next generation Fiesta in Brazil that will make its debut in 2017. Codenamed B500, the automaker has commenced development of the mid-size sedan and its hatchback derivative (sold internationally) that will go on sale as a 2018 year model and could use the C1 MCA modular platform, which will also underpin the next generation Escort sedan. What is interesting though is the fact that apart from Brazil; China and India will also be contributing to the development of the B500.
In terms of power, the next generation Ford Fiesta will be using a new three-cylinder 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine in the Brazilian market that is likely to be based on the existing 1.0-litre EcoBoost motor. The new unit is also likely to replace the outgoing Sigma 1.6-litre petrol engine in the South American continent. The report further states that the new four-stroke motor will be more cost effective to manufacture while also being lighter and more fuel efficient.
The B500 Ford Fiesta will see a host of its development happening at the automaker’s R&D centre in Tamil Nadu that has attracted an investment of Rs. 4000-5000 crores. The sedan body style will be relevant to the Indian market with the hatchback being sold in Europe and the US. The next generation Fiesta could also improve in terms of cabin space at least for the Indian market as it will compete against the popular Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and the likes. A report which surfaced a couple of months back had also suggested that Ford is developing a new C-segment car to take on the aforementioned rivals, the vehicle’s codename is the same B500.
