The Renault Duster facelift continues with the existing design silhouette

The arrival of the Hyundai Creta has really stirred up some excitement in the compact SUV space, challenging the throne of the Renault Duster that has been enjoying a healthy run ever since its launch in 2012. While it’s been ages since the international version received an update, the French automaker is now working on updating the India spec model with a facelift planned for launch by the end of this year. Now, the first spy shots of the Duster facelift have emerged online revealing new details about the compact SUV.

On the outside, the Renault Duster facelift will continue to retain the existing design language, but will get subtle changes to the front and rear fascia. The spy shots showcase new LED or LED effect tail lights while basic changes to the tailgate are to be seen as well. While the images do not show the updated front fascia on the compact SUV, expect to see reworked headlight cluster with a new arrangement, revised bumper and skid plate as well as a reworked grille. The test mule was also seen with new alloy wheels. Renault India could take design cues from the Brazil spec Duster facelift that was introduced earlier this year.

Furthermore, the Renault Duster facelift test mule showcased a camouflaged interior, hinting towards a revised dashboard. The SUV has been criticised for having sub-standard interiors and we would see the automaker bring in better quality materials among other updates to the cabin. In terms of power, the 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine is expected to continue in the existing setup producing 85 PS and 110 PS of power. The 1.6-litre petrol motor will be carried over as well on the facelifted version.

While power is transmitted to the front or all wheels via a 5-speed or 6-speed manual gearbox options in the current guise, reports have suggested of a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission being introduced on the Renault Duster facelift and will take on the Hyundai Creta. With the testing phase commenced, more details on the facelifted version will be available in the following weeks and the update is expected to keep the French compact SUV relevant amidst new competition.
