The Suzuki Ertiga crossover gets an aggressive and rugged styling over the standard model with a revised front fascia, body cladding and dual-tone upholstered interiors.
The Ertiga is one of the more popular sellers for Suzuki not only in India but across the South East Asian markets as well and the automaker revealed the mid-cycle facelifted version of the MPV at the ongoing 2015 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). Adding a bit of ruggedness to the multi-seater, Suzuki also unveiled the Ertiga Crossover Concept at the auto show on the facelifted version with several exterior and interior upgrades differentiating it from the standard model.
Starting with the aesthetic changes, the Suzuki Ertiga Crossover concept gets a new and aggressive looking front fascia comprising of a reworked grille with honeycomb black mesh, black plastic cladding on the front bumper with integrated fog lamps as well as across the wheel arches and sides. The front also gets new LED DRL strips and a silver skid plate. At the rear, the bumper gets black cladding, silver finished faux skid plate and a chrome tip exhaust. There are extended reflectors on the tailgate and a new black garnish rests above the registration plate enclosure. The low profile 18-inch alloy wheels look groovy on the concept version.
Inside the cabin, the 2016 Suzuki Ertiga crossover concept gets leather wrapped steering wheel with controls, dual-tone beige and brown leather upholstered seats with contrast stitching, new 50:50 split third row seats, electrically tractable ORVMs, auto up driver side power window, among other updates (part of the facelift changes). For the Indonesian market, the Ertiga continues to draw power from the same 1.4-litre K-Series petrol motor, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Incidentally, Suzuki had showcased the pre-facelift Ertiga crossover concept back in 2012, but the model never made it to production. Three years since, the concept of crossovers (hatchback + SUV) has been accepted in the market. MPV crossovers continue to be an uncharted territory and it would be interesting to see if the automaker brings the concept to production form or continues to limit its existence only to auto shows.
