Japanese automaker Suzuki has showcased the production version of the Ignis compact SUV and it bears much resemblance to its concept version which was unveiled earlier this year.

Suzuki had showcased the iM-4 concept at the Geneva auto show earlier this year. The Japanese automaker has now revealed the production version of the concept and it is called the Ignis. The Suzuki Ignis made its world debut at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The compact SUV measures 3700 x 1660 x 1595 mm in length, width and height respectively. The vehicle will be launched in India but not before 2017. We expect Maruti Suzuki to showcase it at the 2016 Auto Expo.

The Suzuki Ignis has typical Japanese styling. The overall design is quite boxy but it doesn’t look boring like the Wagon R. A lot of funky elements seem to have been incorporated in the styling of the vehicle. The square headlamps look cool with their LED DRLs while the side profile has a touch of sportiness. The compact size of the Ignis is very evident when viewed from the side. The SUV also gets funky alloys. The rear fascia again has a squarish design and the looks are complemented by the body graphics.

The interiors of the Ignis are again a step up from the current bunch of Suzuki cars. The insides have been designed for extreme practicality. On the mechanical front, the Ignis is powered by a 1.2-litre Dual-Jet engine that pumps out 91 PS of power and 118 Nm of torque. The engine will come with a CVT transmission and the compact SUV will also get an AWD variant, possibly. Suzuki is also offering the SHVS technology on the Ignis.

Since the Ignis measures less than 4-metres in length, it will get tax benefits and is likely to be priced aggressively. The Ignis will compete with vehicles like the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300. Maruti knows the Indian market very well and the company might just hit the jackpot by launching the vehicle here. We think it will be priced in the range of Rs. 5-9 lakhs when launched and will give a tough competition to its rivals.
