It’s raining compact sedans, I am not describing the sub-4 metre sedans that has become a rage in India but the European version of compact sedans which are C-segment rivalling cars like the Audi A3 and Mercedes CLA. Now at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China, BMW has pulled a rabbit out of their hat, a CLA and A3 rivalling car from the stable of the Bavarian auto manufacturer has been unveiled. The Bavarian automaker previews the 1-Series sedan as the BMW Concept Compact Sedan, painted in an exclusive Liquid Metal Bronze exterior which features fine pigments that shift between light and dark depending upon the incidence of light, shows how finesse feels like on this 1-Series sedan.

The BMW 1-Series sedan sports the family fascia flanked with LED headlights, aerodynamic front air scoops, flared wheel arches which gives way to the stylish 20-inch alloys, the sides are highlighted with ‘swage lines’, and a panoramic glass roof giving it a room of premium-ness. Step inside and you are welcomed with open-pored wood and brushed aluminium, a heads-up sprung 8.8-inch infotainment display unit, Nappa leather seats with orange-coloured light accent giving the concept a sense of sportiness. The driver centric layout is typical BMW and fixed headrests is something that has become common in this compact sedan segment.

Details regarding the engine are scarce, it is set to be powered by three-cylinder and four-cylinder TwinPower petrol and diesel engines which are also found in the MINI range. The 1-Series sedan is based upon BMW’s UKL architecture with power delivered to the front wheels as a standard layout, an all-wheel drive for higher variants is also expected. Mercedes and Audi are already in a fierce battle with their competitive line-up standing head-to-head against each other, the 1-Series sedan can only make it better. Entry-level luxury car buyers are definitely going to be spoilt with choices.
