The Tata Kite will be revealed in the first week of December and will be drawing power from a newly developed 1.05-litre diesel engine, the smallest oil burner to come from the company.

Tata Motors will be revealing its next major offering the Kite (codename, could be called Glade) in the first week of December that will be pitted against a host of mass market hatchbacks including the Maruti Celerio, Hyundai Grand i10 and the likes. While the model has already been teased in the automaker’s new ‘Made of Great’ TVC campaign, the Indian auto giant has now teased the hatchback via an official sketch, giving shape to the glimpses seen in the teaser.

Despite retaining the core Tata styling, the new Kite looks fresher, younger and integrates neatly designed elements being designed at the automaker’s studios in the UK and Italy. The wide front grille with a black honeycomb mesh looks premium along with a chrome lining and gets elliptical shaped headlights with sharp lines. The rear gets LED finished tail lamps that further add to the premium appeal.

Inside the cabin, the Kite will be getting a multi-function three-spoke steering wheel similar to the Zest, an MID unit and an audio system with multiple connectivity options. Based on the tweaked Indica platform, the Tata Kite will be drawing power from a 1.2-litre petrol engine while a newly developed 1.05-litre three-cylinder diesel engine will also be making its debut on the model. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual while the automaker could surprise us with an AMT unit as well.

With the Indica now plying more in cab markets, Tata will be positioning the Kite towards private car buyers and could eventually go on to replace the former in the automaker’s lineup. A compact sedan version set to replace the Indigo eCS is also in the works and could be showcased at the Auto Expo early next year. The Kite will most likely go on sale by early 2016.
