The Hero Splendor 125 iSmart is expected to return a segment leading 85 km/l and will feature new cosmetic upgrades while the cost of ownership continues to be low.
High fuel efficiency is always appreciated irrespective of the power or displacement on a vehicle and automakers are going to new lengths to achieve astronomical figures. Hero MotoCorp was one of the first two-wheeler makers to devise the very interesting i3S start-stop system on the Splendor 100cc commuter back in late 2013 and the model has been widely appreciated by the masses backed by strong sales. Given the popularity, the automaker has now decided to add its tech to the larger capacity Splendor 125cc model which was recently caught testing.
The 2016 Hero Splendor 125 iSmart could make its debut at the Auto Expo next February while the launch will follow soon after. The model will be identical to the standard Splendor 125 in terms of aesthetics and will get a new host of upgrades including a new fuel tank design with the i3S graphics, Hero badge on the single-piece handlebar; revised tail lamp and split grab rails. Snapped on the Splendor 125 test mule was the new three-pod instrument cluster.
The i3S technology or idle stop and start system kicks in every time you stop at a signal shutting the engine down and restarts when you engage the clutch again. The feature helps extract more kilometres per litre and is certainly something commuter buyers are looking for. With the new tech on-board, it is believed that the Splendor 125 iSmart will return a segment leading 85 km/l, in comparison to other 125cc motorcycles that achieve around 60 km/l. The other good bit is that buyers will not have to compromise on power like the Splendor 100 iSmart.
Apart from the Splendor 125 i3S, Hero is also believed to be working on the Passion iSmart version that was caught testing last month and could make it to the market next year. The Splendor 125 iSmart will be priced at a marginal premium over the standard version ranging between Rs. 57,000-60,000/- (ex-showroom), keeping the value proposition intact.
