Deliveries for the new Mahindra Imperio have commenced across the country ahead of the official launch on 6th January and is produced at the automaker’s Chakan facility.
New images of the Mahindra Imperio pickup have emerged online ahead of the official launch on 6th January 2016. As per the recent report, the automaker has already commenced delivery of the new pickup to customers and the pictured model was caught during one such delivery in Mangalore, Karnataka. The new images further give a glimpse of the new model which shares its underpinnings with the Xylo platform and is essentially a comprehensively redesigned Genio pickup.
Clearly, Mahindra has opted to go upmarket with the Imperio pickup that gets some good bits to boast of. The front fascia gets a new toothed-grille, sleek headlight cluster and a muscular looking bonnet. The bumper hosts large air intakes and a massive fog lamp enclosure that manages to stand out in terms of design. The only sore point though happens to be the curved A-pillar that gives away its Xylo underpinnings.
The images also reveal the Mahindra Imperio’s cabin that largely continues in the same layout at the Genio. While the steering wheel, instrument cluster and centre console have been carried over, one can see the new Power and Eco driving modes that are aimed to provide different outputs in favour of fuel efficiency. The premium variants also come with air-conditioning on offer. Under the hood, power on the Imperio comes from the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel motor tuned for 75 HP and 220 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed gearbox.
This means that the Mahindra Imperio won’t be going on sale in Delhi and NCR for the next three months at least. Nevertheless, the pickup will be sold across the country and the automaker will also export the model overseas to African and Australian markets. While India gets the RWD version, the Imperio will be offered with AWD internationally with power coming from the more refined 2.2-litre diesel motor.
