Indian automaker Maruti will be launching the AMT Swift DZire soon and the vehicle’s sales will just reach another level then.

The Swift DZire AMT will be priced at a premium of Rs. 40,000-50,000/- over manual trims

Maruti Suzuki had stated earlier this year that they will be launching automatic variants of all their cars. Presently, the company is readying the Swift DZire AMT for launch and this compact sedan, which is selling in really huge numbers, is only expected to climb higher up the sales charts with the introduction of the automatic variants. The AMT gearbox will be offered only with the diesel engine since the petrol engine has an option of a conventional 4-speed automatic transmission.

The Maruti DZire will be getting a 5-speed AMT unit sourced from Magneti Marelli. This is the same gearbox that is also offered with the Tata Zest which is the DZire’s biggest rival. The transmission also has a manual mode. Rest of the mechanicals will remain unchanged and the DZire will be powered by the same 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine that is sourced from Fiat. This oil-burner produces 75 PS of power and is also offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Tata Zest also comes with the same engine but it is offered in a higher tune producing 90 PS of power. The exteriors and interiors of the Maruti DZire will remain unchanged. The vehicle competes with the Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and Ford Figo Aspire. Maruti manages to sell 20,000-odd units of the vehicle every month while competition is lagging far behind.

The Maruti Swift DZire is priced between Rs. 5.99 to 7.91 lakhs for the diesel variants and the AMT trims will be costlier by Rs. 40,000-50,000/-. The launch date of the vehicle isn’t clear but dealers seem to have got their test drive cars so we can expect Maruti to officially launch the DZire AMT in early 2016.
