2016 Jaguar XF Spied Testing In India For The First Time

The 2016 Jaguar XF sedan was spotted for the first time in India in Bangalore and is set to go on sale in the country next year. It will be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.

Having made its public debut at the New York Auto Show earlier this month, Jaguar has commenced testing the 2016 XF in India and the model was spotted for the first time with heavy camouflage during a test run in Bangalore. Jaguar Land Rover’s parent company Tata Motors has its engineering centre, ‘Tata Elxsi’ located in Bangalore and the new XF could be here as part of its development process. Set to go on sale in September in the UK, the sedan will arrive in India by early 2016.

In its second generation, the 2016 Jaguar XF has been developed on the new iQ[AI] aluminium platform that has shaved off 190 kgs from the car’s total weight and is now 30 percent stiffer than the outgoing version. The XF also gets an ideal 50:50 weight distribution that will make it a hoot to drive with improved handling. In terms of aesthetics, the XF sedan gets an evolved design language and does not steer too far from the outgoing model. The lines are sharper with a neatly sculpted front hood, bigger air intakes, and sharper headlights that have improved the aggressive stance of the car. The rear gets F-Type inspired tail lights.

While the total length has been reduced by 7 mm, the 2016 Jaguar XF has received a 51 mm longer wheelbase over the outgoing version opening up more space inside the cabin. Under the hood, the all-new 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol and diesel engines will power the sedan while there will also be the 3.0-litre V6 petrol and diesel engines on offer. In addition, the performance friendly ‘XFR’ version will be powered by the 5.0-litre supercharged petrol V8 motor under the hood that will rival the Mercedes E63 AMG and the BMW M5.

Like the outgoing model, Jaguar India is most likely to assemble the new generation XF at its Pune-based facility and is expected to be available only in the premium variants that will keep the asking price tad bit higher than the competition. Expect the 2016 XF sedan to start at around Rs. 55 lakhs (ex-showroom) in the country when it hits the floors next year.
