2016 Suzuki Vitara S Launched In Europe With New BoosterJet Petrol Engine

The Suzuki Vitara S uses the new 1.4-litre BoosterJet petrol engine and is the first model in the automaker’s lineup to be powered by the advanced new motor.

Power on the Suzuki Vitara S is uprated to 140 PS and 220 Nm of torque

Giving driving enthusiasts one more reason to walk into showrooms, Suzuki has launched the 2016 Vitara S in the European market that not only adds the new suffix to the nameplate but also packs in more power under the hood along with a host of goodies. The interesting part in this package though is the new all-new BoosterJet petrol engine powering the Vitara S, making it the first production vehicle to get the advanced powertrain.

On the outset, the 2016 Suzuki Vitara S differentiates itself with a new front grille taking cues from the original iV-4 concept, 17-inch gloss black alloy wheels with contrast finished satin silver ORVMs, LED headlights with red projector covers; black side claddings and a rear spoiler. The Vitara definitely looks aggressive with that grille certainly grabbing all the attention. Things are flared up inside the cabin as well with black seats with contrast red stitching and bezels that add to the sporty feel on the crossover.

The real party piece is under the hood as the new 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol motor with direct injection is tuned for 140 PS and 220 Nm of torque available between 1500-4000 RPM. This is the first application of the advanced BoosterJet family of engines and features a wastegate valve that closes during heavy throttle loads to increase boost pressure and remains open under normal driving, which helps reduce pumping loss allowing to achieve more power and low fuel consumption. The automaker has also worked to minimise turbo lag by using a specifically developed turbocharger attached directly to the cylinder head.

As a result, the Suzuki Vitara S is quick on the clock running from 0-100 km/hr in 10.2 seconds while hitting a top whack of 200 km/hr. The crossover is offered in both 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions with performance figures remaining the same. Furthermore, the Vitara S comes with permanent AWD courtesy of the AllGrip system and gets four driving modes including Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock.
