The new Verna won’t be dramatically different from the outgoing model

Ahead of the official launch later this year, the next generation Hyundai Verna was caught testing in China revealing a host of new details. Sporting heavy camouflage, it is believed that the all-new Verna will be getting a subtly revised exterior design without moving too far from the current language. The outgoing Verna (Verna 4S in India) was updated last year and is based on the automaker’s Fluidic Sculpture v2.0 design philosophy. As a result, the Korean carmaker needs to only tweak the design to ensure a fresh look.

Expect to see a revised grille and headlights while the side profile is largely the same save for the new rear quarter glass. While not visible, the rear has been reworked to reduce the visual bulk while the tail light cluster could see a redesign featuring LEDs. The biggest upgrade on the 2017 Hyundai Verna will be inside the cabin that is expected to be comprehensively reworked and will come loaded with new creature comforts.

As seen in the spy shots, the new Verna gets rear AC vents that have now become a segment standard feature while the upholstery has also been updated. Further, there will be a new instrument cluster loaded with more information and possibly the DTE function this time.

An updated touchscreen infotainment will also make it to the next generation Hyundai Verna and could possibly support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems along with built-in navigation. Mechanically, the Korean automaker has constantly made the effort to improve its products and hopes are high with the new Verna as well. Better stability and a less vague steering are surely some of the factors we’d like to see apart from improved handling characteristics.

Under the hood, the 2017 Hyundai Verna will be using the same powertrain as the current model, but tweaked for improved efficiency. Transmission options will see upgrades with a new 7-speed dual clutch automatic being on offer and will replace the outgoing 4-speed and 6-speed automatic units. The 5-speed and 6-speed manual gearbox options will also be on sale. While not confirmed, the India launch of the new Verna can be expected in the last quarter of 2016 or early 2017.
