Toyota is known for some of its SUVs and vans and many of these overseas models are popular in the Indian market too. The Japanese company also produces some vans that are slotted in premium segments and while these are not offered on sale here, we do see some of them being imported privately. The company has the Vellfire in its product range, a van that is known for its style and most importantly the utmost comfort that it offers. Toyota has now imported two units of the vehicle and it will be showcased at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo.

The Vellfire is also known as the Alphard in some markets and the latter name is more popular. The Alphard comes with oodles of chrome on the body and offers luxurious insides while the Vellfire gets a re-designed front grille and tweaked head lamps and tail lights. Both the cars get exactly the same mechanicals. The vans are offered with three engine options. Toyota has imported one unit of the hybrid model and another trim that comes with the 3.5-litre petrol engine.

The hybrid variant comes with a 2.5-litre Atkinson-cycle 2AR FXE engine that comes matched to an eCVT transmission and an E-Four (four-wheel drive) system. There is a 141 HP motor at the front and a 67 HP motor at the rear and the engine gives out an excellent claimed fuel efficiency of 19.4 km/l. The other engine is a 3.5-litre V6 2GR-FE engine that churns out 276 HP of power. It comes mated to a 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission and has a fuel efficiency of 9.4 km/l.

The Toyota Vellfire comes with LED roof illumination with four brightness levels and 16 colour variations, smart entry and push-button start and a Welcome Power Slide door that automatically opens when a user approaches. The vehicle also comes with Radar Cruise Control with an all-speed tracking function. The vehicles have been imported to India at a cost of Rs. 38 lakhs each but none of these are going to be launched here anytime soon.
