The MY16 KTM RC 390 was unveiled at the EICMA 2015 in Milan last year and has been launched in India recently but the Indian variant misses out on the side mounted exhaust seen on the European RC 390.

KTM recently launched the MY16 Duke and RC range with a number of updates such as modified ECU dampers, slipper clutch, diverting radiator fans, etc. at a premium of Rs. 1500/- on the previous prices. However, the Indian variant missed out on the side mounted exhaust found on the European spec RC. Two bikes equipped with these exhausts were spied testing by our reader Somesh Gyanchandani in Lonavala.

The spied MY16 KTM RC 390 had red license plates and the numbers of both the plates were in series, the first bike was numbered as ’71’ while the second one had ’72’ written on the license plate. The spied models had all the upgrades seen on the MY16 variant like the newly-designed mirrors, etc.

The possibility of Indian variant getting a side mounted exhaust is scarce as the MY16 models are already launched while the European models get the exhausts to meet the Euro IV emission norms. Plus the entire KTM Duke and RC lineup which includes the 125, 200, 250 and 390 is produced at Bajaj Auto’s plant in Pune and hence the spied RCs can be prototypes of models to be sold in international markets.

The KTM RC 390 is powered by a 373.2cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 43 PS at 9000 RPM and 35 Nm of torque at 7000 RPM. This motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox that gets a slipper clutch in the MY16 variant. The braking department consists of 300 mm front disc (320 mm for export markets) and a single-piston floating calliper disc brake on the rear wheel.
