In a possible bid to prevent hiking prices of its car, Tata will now offer the 75 PS tune in the base variants of the Zest and alloys will be offered only on the top trims.
Tata Motors launched the Zest compact sedan in 2014 and the vehicle is offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. While the petrol engine is a 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged unit, the diesel engine is the infamous 1.3-litre Multijet unit that comes in two states of tune – 75 PS and 90 PS.
The Tata Zest diesel is available in six variants – XE, XM, XMS, XMA, XT, and XTA. Earlier, only the XE trim was offered in the lower 75 PS tune while all the other variants came with the higher engine tune. Now, Tata has made some changes to the line-up and the Zest now gets the 75 PS tune on the XM and XMS variants too.
Apart from this, Tata Motors will now offer alloy wheels only on the XT and XTA variants. It is still unclear why Tata Motors has made these changes and whether this is any price correction to follow. It is also possible that the automaker has done this in order to avoid any price hikes.
The Tata Zest competes with the Maruti Swift DZire, Ford Figo Aspire, Hyundai Xcent and Honda Amaze. The vehicle is very good but unfortunately it hasn’t managed to come anywhere close to its rivals’ sales figures. The Tata Zest is priced between Rs. 5.07 – 8.51 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
