Maruti Suzuki recently cut down the production of their Swift and DZire to accommodate their new products, the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno which have been showing promising sales since their launch.

The Swift has been Maruti’s best-selling hatch for quite a few years now. Since its launch in 2005, the Swift has been a grand success for Maruti. It has received its fair share of facelifts and has become one of the most recognised cars on India’s landscape. Come 2016 however, Maruti has decided to reduce the production of the Swift and Swift DZire, to increase the unit output of the Vitara Brezza and Baleno.

The move comes after promising sales of both its new vehicles the Baleno and Brezza. However, there have been no significant drop in the sales of the Swift and Swift DZire. On that account, the move looks like a strategic one as the Baleno and Vitara Brezza may be more profitable for the organisation. Both the Baleno and Vitara have turned out to be quite successful as they both enjoy a waiting period of approximately 4-6 months.

The Maruti Vitara Brezza is the newest of the two, and was launched this March. The compact SUV has already received over 55,000 bookings. The Baleno on the other hand has got over 1 lakh bookings since its launch in October last year. In April, the Brezza out sold its rival, the Ford EcoSport by selling 7832 units. The Baleno has also beaten its main rival the Hyundai Elite i20 by selling 9562 units.

Maruti is also expected to launch the Baleno RS around late August this year. The RS will get a 1.0=litre BoosterJet engine which is turbocharged to output around 110 HP of power and 175 Nm of torque. The Brezza on the other hand, is speculated to get a petrol variant.
