Tata Motors is in the mood to make the most of the upcoming festive season as it plans interesting launches in the form of the Tiago based sedan (Kite 5), Tiago AMT and Tiago Aktiv by November 2016.

2016 Tata Kite 5
The Tiago sedan is arguably the best looking product till date from the Tata stable

Tata Motors must be one happy lot as their newly launched Tiago hatch has been raking in good numbers. To make the most of the opportunity, the team at Tata Motors plan to have a festive launch of their Tiago based sedan. The Tiago based sedan will be manufactured at their Sanand plant which was primarily set up for the manufacturing of the Nano. The plant is being operated in two shifts to meet the demand for the Tata Tiago, which is currently having a waiting period of two to three months.

The Tiago platform based crossover vehicle is also being planned. Tata Motors did showcase a crossover vehicle (then called the Zica Aktiv) along with the Tiago based sedan (codenamed Kite 5) at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi earlier this year. The sedan will sport a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.05-litre diesel engine.

The Tiago based sedan when launched will rival the likes of the Maruti Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire (not to be called the Figo Aspire anymore) and the Volkswagen Ameo. The pricing is expected to be competitive as the Tata Zest already rivals the aforementioned cars. The upcoming Kite 5 sedan will replace the Indigo eCS (which is credited to be the first compact sedan).

The Tiago based sedan might be named the Canvas (reminds us of a smartphone manufacturer’s product), Dribble (inspired by Messi’s legendary dribbling skills) or Ingrid. The sedan will most probably be launched around the Diwali-Dussehra period to make the most of the festive season. An AMT variant of the Tiago hatchback is also supposed to be introduced at the same time. Tata officials have refused to comment on anything as of now.

The Sanand plant is producing roughly around 500 units of the Tiago a month alongside the Tata Nano. The production capacity of the Sanand plant is said to be about 2,50,000 cars a year. We, at MotorBeam expect Tata Motors to have a great run, especially in the coming years as they have been rolling out some very good cars and with a slew of launches planned, things seem positive for the owners of Jaguar Land Rover.
