Bajaj Auto has decided to drop the Pulsar name on the upcoming VS 400 power cruiser. It will debut a new brand name which will help it rival Royal Enfield in the cruiser segment.

Bajaj VS 400
The VS 400 won’t carry the Pulsar name as expected earlier

The Pulsar CS 400 grabbed a lot of attention when it was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo and it has been more than two years but the motorcycle hasn’t gone on sale yet. It will be launched in November 2016 but won’t carry the Pulsar brand name, instead, it will be positioned under a new brand name. With Bajaj doing a CS to VS, we can’t expect VS to be final either and the same could change too.

The VS 400 will be Bajaj Auto’s new flagship bike (currently it’s the Pulsar RS 200) and will be more premium than any other offerings from the V15 maker. It will sit above the Pulsar and won’t overlap with it, so a VS 200 in the near future seems unlikely. Being a power cruiser, the VS 400 needs a new brand name which could spawn more models in the future.

Why is Bajaj dropping the Pulsar name from the VS 400? The likely reason is the rival of the VS 400 as the motorcycle will compete directly with the Royal Enfield Classic (both 350 and 500). A Pulsar fighting it out with a Royal Enfield won’t be easy to digest and thus the change in name, or so we think.

Royal Enfield’s top selling motorcycle is the Classic 350 which accounts for around 80% of the British brand’s sales (32,971 units sold last month). The Bajaj VS 400 is targeting these set of buyers by offering them a power cruiser which boasts of the latest tech like LED headlights, liquid-cooling, 4-valves, 6-speed gearbox, two all digital instrument clusters, wave disc brakes and optional dual-channel ABS.

The Bajaj VS 400 will offer better performance than the Chennai based motorbikes thanks to the 373.2cc, 3-spark engine which outputs 34.5 BHP of power. The pictures you see here are the latest spy shots of the Vantage Sport 400 which was spotted in Ahmednagar recently.
