Ford India beats Hyundai as top exporter in August 2016

The Make-In-India campaign has worked well for Ford India since the American automaker has managed to beat Hyundai India in terms of exports in August 2016. Currently being the top car exporter in India, Ford has actually shipped more car overseas than it sold in the domestic market. The Figo, known as Ka in the other markets is contributing big in exports.

Ford India exported 17,860 units in the last month compared to Hyundai’s 16,506 units followed closely by Maruti Suzuki shipping 12,131 units. Maruti is the third largest exporter of cars from India followed by Nissan, Volkswagen and General Motors respectively. The Figo twins are doing the magic now after the success of EcoSport for exports.

The new generation hatchback and compact sedan are further expected to help Ford India grow in exports. However, the two new products from Ford are not being appreciated well by the Indian audience and hence the volumes for the domestic market are on the lower side. Ford has invested 1 billion USD to triple their exports from India.

India has recently surpassed China in passenger car exports and with heavy investments coming in from big players across the globe, the numbers are expected to grow at a rapid pace in the near future. The American carmaker GM is also doing well in exports with the Beat. Volkswagen too exports more than it sells in India with the Vento and Polo while Nissan is also catching good pace in exports.
