It has now been confirmed that Toyota will be launching the Lexus brand in India in 2017. The Japanese automaker was earlier going to launch the premium brand a couple of years back but eventually it did not materialise due to a lot of reasons. This time around, the plans seem concrete and Lexus will initially have 2 dealerships, 1 each in Mumbai and Delhi in prime locations.

Earlier Lexus had planned to bring in only the hybrid range to the Indian market, but since the government hasn’t really given any major subsidies for hybrid cars (apart from the FAME scheme), Toyota dropped that plan and decided to introduce both hybrid as well as non-hybrid cars.

The SUV range will have its top of the range model LX and the compact RX. The LX will be available in two variants, a petrol-powered LX 570 and a diesel-powered LX 450d. Both the trims get a V8 engine and an 8-seater layout. The RX 450h is smaller than the LX and comes with a 5-seater layout and is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine combining a hybrid power plant which churns out a total 300 HP of power.

The RX 450h might be available in both standard as well as the F-Sport variants which is said to be more sportier and stylish. Along with the two SUV models, Lexus will also launch the ES 300h sedan. The ES 300h comes with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine combined with a hybrid powertrain producing 200 HP of peak power.
