Toyota Etios Platinum Launched
The Toyota Etios Platinum comes with a number of changes to the exteriors

The Toyota Etios has been around in the market for quite a lot of time now. The vehicle has sold in decent numbers despite it being a very basic and built-for-purpose car. The Etios has also received a lot of success in the commercial market too. Toyota has now given the Etios a major update and a new name. The Etios Liva facelift has been launched at Rs. 5.24 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai) while the Etios Platinum sedan is priced from Rs. 6.43 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

The design and development of the Etios facelift was done entirely by the Indian R&D team of Toyota. On the outside, the Etios now gets a new bumper, redesigned grille, bigger air dam and new housing for the fog lamps. The side profile remains more or less the same while at the rear you get a tweaked bumper, chrome strip on the boot lid and redesigned tail lamps. Apart from this, the Etios Liva also comes with a dual tone paint job.

Top variants of the Etios now come with electrically folding ORVMs along with new alloy wheels. The dashboard continues to come with the same design but the instrument cluster is all new and it looks upmarket. Toyota has also plonked in seats with new textures and a rear armrest.

The Toyota Etios facelift comes with the same 1.5-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engines and both of them are matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel engine produces 67 HP of power and 170 Nm of torque while the petrol engine churns out 88 HP of power and 132 Nm of torque. The Etios Liva gets a 1.2-litre petrol engine along side the same diesel engine. The company has replaced the rubber mounts with hydraulic mounts while the clutch and gearbox have also been tweaked.

On the safety front, the Etios now comes with ABS as standard on all trims. The vehicle also gets side impact reinforcements and ISOFIX mounts. The sedan already comes with airbags as standard fitment on all variants. The Etios competes in the C-segment where rivals are aplently so it is going to be interesting to watch how this update gives some much-needed boost to the car’s sales.
