The SHVS feature is offered on the Ciaz and Ertiga too

The Maruti Baleno was launched in India a year back and the premium hatchback is offered with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. However, the automaker hasn’t been offering the SHVS feature on the Baleno, something that is available on the Ciaz and Ertiga. The Baleno SHVS is likely to be launched in India in 2017.

Currently, the Baleno does get the SHVS tech but that is offered only on the 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine that is meant for export markets. However, Maruti will start offering SHVS on the diesel trims in 2017 and these variants will produce more fuel efficiency than the current diesel Baleno.

There is a lot of demand for the Baleno presently and hence the company hasn’t launched the SHVS version yet. The claimed fuel efficiency of the regular diesel variants is 27.39 km/l. Maruti sells around 10,000 units of the premium hatchback every month. The Baleno competes with the Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz and Fiat Punto Evo.
