Toyota had showcased the new generation Prius at the 2016 Auto Expo and now the automaker has confirmed that the hybrid car will be launched in India in January 2017, while an exact date hasn’t been given out yet. Earlier, Toyota used to have the older Prius in its line-up too.

The 2017 Toyota Prius comes with the company’s TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. The vehicle is powered by a 1.8-litre VVT-i petrol engine along with an electric motor, part of the updated Hybrid Synergy Drive system. The engine comes coupled to an e-CVT gearbox and power is sent to the front wheels. For short distances, the car can be driven in full electric mode.

The 2017 Toyota Prius will be brought down as a CBU. It won’t receive incentives under the FAME scheme, unlike the Camry Hybrid. We can expect the car to cost Rs. 40 lakhs (ex-showroom) but customers in Delhi can rejoice because the VAT on electric and hybrid cars has been reduced from 12.5% to 5%.
