Mercedes E-Class LWB India launch soon, to be the first in segment LWB

The Mercedes E-Class is one of the highest selling cars in the German automaker’s portfolio and this luxury sedan is mostly bought by people who prefer to sit in the rear seat while their chauffeur tackles the traffic. The next generation E-Class has been on sale in global markets since some time now and it will be launched in India in the next couple of months. But there is more to it.

Mercedes has been developing a right-hand-drive long wheelbase version of the new E-Class (V213) exclusively for the Indian market. The company won’t be launching the regular version here and only the LWB version will be offered. The automaker has invested a lot of company to develop this car only for India and yet they are confident that it will generate good sales to cover the investment cost.

The new Mercedes E-Class LWB will come with S-Class-inspired interiors loaded with tons of equipment. The rear seat will also get a touchscreen tablet controller along with a host of other tech. The petrol E-Class will be christened E300 and will be powered by the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 245 HP of power. The diesel engine (E350d) will be a 3.0-litre V6 producing 258 HP of power.

The new E-Class will definitely be priced higher than the current E-Class but Mercedes aims to attract buyers of cars in a segment above, from rival companies. On paper, the E-Class competes with the Jaguar XF, BMW 5-Series, Audi A6 and Volvo S90 but we won’t be surprised if customers considering the 7-Series or the XJ buy the E-Class LWB.
